Jul. 20th, 2004 11:18 pmlong day.
( ...and a long story behind part of it. )
Anyway. Onto less-depressing things... after we left the hospital, my mom and I went to a birthday gathering-thing at Pedro's for Anne, who's Bree's stepmother and one of my mother's closest friends. We ate crappy Mexican food and Anne got into a drinking contest with the girlfriend of one of her sons. It was still going when we left, heh.
I got home and my father told me someone called, he didn't know who though, so I called the number back and it turned out to have been Alaina calling from Brent's cell phone, telling me to come down to Open Mic. So I went down there... Adam was having a hard time coming up with songs to do, and Alaina was already reading off a poem during part of his time slot, so I intruded further and played my cover of "3 Libras" during his slot as well. I did crappy, bleh.
After we performed there was this group of, I don't know... modern-day hippies or something. And they went up onstage, and the one guy started intoning his message of "peace... love.... understanding...." and he was taking himself SO seriously... Brent started snickering, so I elbowed him and whispered "Don't snerk at the hippies!" and then we both just lost it and scurried outside, where we proceeded to laugh insanely. We walked around the building laughing some more about it, at one point I was laughing so hard I almost fell over... and then we tried to go back in, but they were still up there, and we didn't last more than 30 seconds before hastily retreating outside to laugh about it some more. I don't know, there was just something so ridiculous about it... I mean, there was nothing wrong with their ideas, but... you know, you have to consider your cultural context when expecting to be taken seriously.... so yeah. The justification we developed for the laughter and the fleeing was "[We're] evil, snarky, mean, AND cowardly!" (it was actually "I'm" since we said that separately but yeah).
We were all going to go to the Chocolate Cafe or something, but me, Alaina, and Tricia got down there and it was closed, and Brent and Adam took forever to show up, so we sat in the car, with Tricia playing a cell phone game that involved ball-popping and all of us making bad-sounding comments about it and me and Alaina laughing ourselves sick. Finally they showed up, and Tricia went with them to her house, and I drove Alaina home. Spent the entire ride talking in really funny voices about entirely random things. And ball-popping. Heh. So yeah.
Whee. Long and pointless. ... I should sleep.
