Mar. 5th, 2007 11:17 pmToday the theater received 56 par cans, most of them on pipes, to be used to provide backlight for the 4 dance shows I have to light in what is only pretending to be a theatrical space next quarter. ( Insert lighting-related babble here. )
On the good side, rental was free. This is good, because stu-orgs don't like paying us or anyone else, and Previous Master Electrician burned lots of bridges by "renting" things but never paying for them as expected. And I get paid regardless.
But, of course there is a downside. I have to clean them and fix them.
They have been hanging in a bar for 20 years.
Think about that for a minute. Please. Think about what you might get from 20 years of dust and smoke with 1000W of light baking it on.
Oh, fuck. This is going to be disgusting.
also, P.S., can we talk about next quarter? I am Master Electrician for both of the Theatre department's spaces AND, functionally speaking, Dalton (since most of what's happening there are the dance shows). I am designing for Senior Performance Series (this is actually the least of my problems) and 4 dance shows. I have 56 par cans to clean and repair and hang and circuit, 12 Source 4's to assemble, 4 areas to recircuit, about 8 areas to move back to where they were before there was a car hanging from the catwalks, a new board to learn, and no lighting class so no built-in assistants. The show has a huge set, so the shop staff will be too busy to become substitute lighting minions. Oh, and I'm taking Photo, which is known for its tendency to A. be fun, but B. rape you in the face while it's at it.
...I need to just find somewhere in FAB that I can sleep.
I mean, seriously, I love my job. And I am going to make a lot of money next quarter. But god DAMN.
