Feb. 5th, 2008 04:54 pmIn keeping with the updating-once-per-city I've been doing lately, I am now in Amsterdam, where I have done a lot less things-that-are-legal-here-and-not-at-home and a lot more wandering around the city taking pictures, because it turns out that it's freaking gorgeous, particularly if you get off the beaten tourist track. Yesterday I went to the Anne Frank House, which was interesting but a bit overpriced -- but worth it, because otherwise I wouldn't have gotten off the main drag and walked along a canal lined with ancient, crooked houses and little local bakeries, through a once-weekly flea market where I bought a handmade journal bound in old leather for €5 and a cup of straight-from-the-fruit orange juice for €1 (it's €2-3 everywhere else that's more tourist-y). I went to the Van Gogh museum today, and then had a kinda shitty afternoon that involved getting lost in the rain.
Tonight I think I'm going to go out for dinner if I can find somewhere affordable, and if it's stopped fucking raining, and then come back and chill. Tomorrow morning I have to check out at 10:30, kill 4 hours somehow, go back to the hostel and get my luggage, catch a tram to Central Station, catch a train to Schiphol, catch my flight to Edinburgh, and then catch a train back to Aberdeen.
So...
Wednesday: The above, plus calling Laura once I'm back in Aberdeen to get a ride back from the train station... this won't be until like 11PM. Wash the shirt I threw up on in Berlin so that it will possibly have time to air-dry by Thursday night. (It actually looks completely fine, because all I had to throw up was alcohol. But it's just the principle of the thing...)
Thursday: Do laundry, go for one last night out in town with the flatmates. Did someone say "all-you-can-eat Indian buffet"? Yes, yes, I think they did.
Friday-Saturday: Repack. Going-away party. Stay up all night saying goodbyes before getting a taxi with Liz and Derek at around 3:30 - 4 AM on Saturday (hell, at that time of day/night, we can probably just flag down one of the ones that's just delivered a load of people back at Hillhead from a night out). Flight leaves Aberdeen for Amsterdam (I know, right?) at 6:20 AM, there's a change of planes somewhere in there, and I should be landing in Chicago around 12:20 PM CST.
... I don't want to come home. I really, really, REALLY don't. Fuuuuuuck.
