So Venetian was interesting.

Friday: Pretty standard. Unloading shit, loading shit, followspot for 2nd band; the third band brought moving lights, which was a. cool, because all we ever have are pars, and b. meant they didn't need/want me on spot. So I walked around with Harley for a bit and then came back and caught the second half of the main band, who were actually amazingly good, especially for River Stage, where for the 3 years previously we had the same goddamn Elvis impersonator on Friday night.

Saturday: We are called at 11 AM. My phone battery dies, so no alarm, so I wake up at 10:30, and it's raining like hell so I call Mark and ask him if I can come in late because all we were going to do was set up sound shit, which wouldn't happen in the rain. He says yes. I have a nice leisurely breakfast/shower. At 12:05 I get a voicemail from Mark going "OH MY GOD GET DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW WE NEED EVERYONE". I'm already mostly ready so I finish up and scurry out the door.

Well, uh... River Stage fall down go boom.

The stage is built using platforms, and then a tower on each end supporting a truss system with a rubber roof stretched over top. This roof likes to collect water when it rains. Normally they A. lower the back of the roof to minimize this, and B. poke it with a stick every so often to get the water that is there out, but the guy who brought it didn't come back Friday night to lower it, and by the time people got there at 10:30 the next morning, it had been raining 4 hours and the roof was halfway to the floor. They tried some last-minute poking, but it didn't really work -- too heavy -- and the guys doing it heard something creak and got the fuck off the stage. 3 minutes later the back left tower crumpled and the whole thing came down, with all the sound and lighting equipment still on/under it.

It looked like hell -- I have shitty cell phone pictures -- but amazingly, nothing was fucked up except (obviously) the back left tower, all the poles on the A/V tent, and a few par cans. Fortunately the moving light rig had left the night before. All the sound stuff was fine and the dimmers were okay after the main light tech spent some quality time with a hairdryer. Still, it was a PAIN IN THE ASS, and it took us about 4 hours to tear it down and rebuild it and load everything back up. We canceled the first band just in case, although it went fast enough that it probably would've been fine.

So that was fun.

Today: Mostly uneventful. Lots of Jesus and bad Jesus music.

Throughout: Being hit on by an alcoholic bipolar recently-ex-military guy. Obviously going by the last 3 months I have gotten a little attractiveness juju back (am I alternating years or something?)... but seriously? Gah.
EDIT: He added me on MyspaceOMGWTFMARRIEDWHYDOIATTRACTTHESEPEOPLE

Now: Shower and then out with Jenna...
