less than a mile from my house is - or was - a place called the Snowflake Motel, which rumor has it Frank Lloyd Wright designed. It's fallen into disrepair (that's an understatement, really) and is now being torn down. I went there today and took pictures... As much as there was controversy, it needed to come down. Pretty much irreparable. Made for interesting shots, though.

It's still mostly in good shape from the outside, at least the parts that haven't been demolished.

However, the inside...

(you could see this plant from the outside, it was poking out and over the window... I was so happy when that room was one of the unlocked ones)

I have pictures that show the decay and filth better. But they're not as artsy and so I'm not going to bother. In any case, it's pretty obvious that the historical preservation society didn't really look at this place when they were arguing to save it -- it's unsalvagable. But still neat.

and tonight...
JUCIFER.
fuck yes.

Yeah. It's REALLY shitty in there. We found some rooms that must've been the ones that had still been open until more recently, they were in okay shape -- but we found other parts that were... well... daaaamn.

My Uncle Jack actually was one of the welders who put that dome thing together (which was supposed to be enclosed in glass). It's a shame nobody tried to keep that place, it was so unique...But such is life. Nothing is forever, as they say. Fantastic photos, as always.

The thing is, if it was going to be kept it needed to be thought about decades ago. It's not in the pictures but... it's a wreck in there. There's no salvaging it. You couldn't restore it, you'd have to rebuild it. So while it's a shame they're tearing it down, it needed to happen -- the time for saving it had long passed.

You know, I was so intrigued that I looked it up - it's actually done by his nephew.

Yeah, that was what they said although in the paper there was some debate over it...
