so, I got a perm on Thursday. this is because my hair's normal state was straightened, because its natural state is "half wavy, half straight, all assy". as it reverted to this the moment it encountered any significant amount of moisture, I figured that I might as well just cut my losses and save my hair and sanity and help the curl out for Scotland. better than endless, futile hours of quality time with mr. flat-iron.

I also cut a lot off... it looks nice in the morning, but after a few hours has gone "FLOOMF" into something terrifying, so, I need to get that figured out, but yeah.

I leave in a week and a day, basically. all nervousness has effectively been canceled by the fact that I'm already not in classes at K next term and if I have to spend any more time than the next week at home with my father, it's gonna be either me or him. I don't think he is aware of the extent to which this summer is driving me utterly fucking mad. having spent 9-10 months in a living situation of "I'll take care of mine, you take care of yours," I am not dealing well with having him consider everyone's dishes and laundry to be wholly my responsibility, whether I had anything to do with them or not. it's probably selfish and childish of me, but shit like "I was going to do the laundry, but then I realized that that's what I have a 20-year-old daughter for" makes me incredibly angry. tonight I cleaned out my mother's car just to stop them from yelling at each other (guess who started that one?) about it, after setting up all of his (technology-related) recent birthday presents because he couldn't be arsed to, you know, READ THE MANUAL. and I mean, I have been a leech this summer. I most assuredly hate it even more than he does -- being unemployed is a quick and easy way for me to feel useless and depressed. but I don't think this justifies the fact that I get yelled at regularly for not taking care of everyone else's crap.

and ranting, and so I'll shut it. anyway.

Product. Hair product. Product for the hair.

'Got 2 Be' or this VO5 Curvaceous stuff is quite good.

Having a diffuser for your blow-dryer is also a plus.

Oh, the joys of naturally, or artificially, curly hair! :P

I know I'm allergic to VO5. I'm PROBABLY allergic to the other stuff, though I'd have to try. I'm sort of allergic to most hair product...

And yeah, I'm buying a hairdryer with a diffuser once I get to the UK.

are you allergic to just regular hairsprays and gels?

If you can put it in your hair, I'm probably allergic to it. I can't use probably 80% of shampoos and 95% of styling products.

I'm sorry you and your parents are driving each other nuts. It's happening at my house, too-- my mom told me today that my stripey socks made me look like a sixth grader and no wonder no one takes me seriously. Grr. Argh. Don't worry about the ranting, I'm always good for a few hours of ranting. Hang in there, focus on all that cool stuff you'll get to do in Scotland soon-- my friend Emily told me that the classes are quite easy, and if you do well you're not required to bother with exams. Drinking fine scotch and beer! And Zaide Pixley said there's a brilliant yarn shop in Aberdeen. Drunken knitting! So yay!

I'm sorry you'r not good with product-- it's how I keep my curly hair from going insane in the membrane. What are you exactly allergic to? If you can find something with no artificial chemicals in it, would that work better?

Yeah. I have problems with a lot of artificial chemicals -- enough that I can't narrow it down to a specific one. My system's pretty wonked... for example, I'm usually more allergic to hypoallergenic versions of things than the regular versions!

And yes, drunken knitting is definitely planned. ^^
