To compensate for going out while sick I slept for 5 hours today. Now I'm going out.

Of course she was horrified. Scandinavian systems work because they're orderly and neat, but to keep them going you have to be orderly and neat yourself-- well, Scandinavian. What does she think of the fact that Finns are said to be among the most introverted people in the world? And that they rarely, if ever, get help for depression, among other things? I heard from one that being a Finnish psychiatrist is like being a sea captain in the Gobi Desert. The American system has its problems, to be certain, and no one's system is much better than anyone else's, but Finnish reticence in the face of life-threatening mental illness horrifies me.

I haven't asked her about it, and I'm sure it's probably a problem... The fact is, though, if Finns wanted help with their mental health they could get it and the government would pay for it. She could not believe the number of uninsured in America and how utterly -fucked- you are if something goes wrong health-wise that you have no insurance for.
