oh jesus. in 24 hours I will just-taken-off from Amsterdam, en route to Chicago...
it's funny, because it sucks almost as much for Evette as it does for me, I think... I'm close with the others, but she and I have been each other's bitching buddies, and now Laura has a boyfriend who she's with ALL THE TIME and who doesn't like Evette and who Evette has a bad feeling about, and Jenny's busy with canoe club and -her- boyfriend. Evette's boyfriend is down in London, so we're the ones who sit around late at night and drink tea and make fun of everyone, and I amuse her greatly, and now I'm leaving and the whole dynamic will be off a bit. Last night we left the pub early and she was venting all the things to me that she's had to keep to herself about the Laura situation. I've been feeling a little like I'm going to leave and that's that and I'm forgotten, off everyone's radar, but last night made me realise that I am actually going to be missed -- which makes the whole thing a little better and a little worse all at once.
With that, and the fact that this is likely my last entry posted before I come home... a list or three.
THINGS I WILL MISS:
-My flatmates and new friends. x1000000
-Being able to drink legally
-Going into a shop and being left alone by the employees (because I'm an antisocial asshole like that)
-Indian food being plentiful, as well as the ingredients to prepare it.
-Europe being within easy travelling distance
-Public transportation
-Fruit squash
-Sandwich filler
-Lovely old buildings on campus
-Old buildings in general
-Not being in America and all things related to this (there are a lot).
THINGS I WILL NOT MISS:
-Living on the pound with a bank account in dollars
-Everything being expensive (see above)
-The sky being gray all the time
-My moldy flat and its useless ovens and shower floods
-Giant fuckoff seagulls who want to eat your eyeballs
-Paying exorbitant amounts of money to do my laundry
-Not having a living room or anywhere else cozy to sit around
-Not being able to interact with people's friendly dogs when I pass them walking... people are really "MINE" about their pets here.
-Not being able to drive
THINGS I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO IN THE U.S.:
-Seeing my friends and family
-Being able to afford things again
-Snow... though I'm sure the charm will wear off of that one quickly.
-Chinese food
-Driving my car!
-Being able to do lighting stuff again
this is really incomplete 'cause I'm lazy but whatever.
see you all soon....
